Mentors & Community Champions
High School Mentors
High School mentors are recruited from local high schools and youth-serving organizations. High School mentors plan and deliver IYMP with support from the community champion. Being a High School mentor means being a role model and leader in the program. In some communities, High School mentors can earn course credits for their participation in the program.
Elementary School Mentors
Elementary School mentors are recruited from local elementary schools. Elementary mentors play an important role in the mentorship circle. Elementary School mentors contribute to the development of youth mentors’ interpersonal communication, conflict resolution skills, problem-solving, time management, and good listening skills. The program offers a safe space for both youth and child mentors to practice these skills.
Community Champions
Each community has at least one Community Champion to guide and support High School mentors in facilitating the IYMP program. Community Champions include teachers, educational assistants, post-secondary students, or community members who are dedicated to promoting the wholistic wellness of their communities.
